DeepDyve, formerly Infovell, delivers the research engine for information-savvy consumers who want access to expert content on topics they care about. For the first time, researchers, students, technical professionals, business users, and other information consumers can access a wealth of untapped information that resides on the "Deep Web" – the vast majority of the Internet that is not indexed by traditional, consumer-based search engines. The DeepDyve research engine unlocks this in-depth, professional content and returns results that are not cluttered by opinion sites and irrelevant content.
The company was founded in 2005 by two bio-informatics scientists who had worked on the Human Genome Project. Decoding the human DNA required extensive research and countless data sources, yet the tools available for finding Web-based information were frustratingly limited and time-consuming. Traditional keyword search engines do not support complex queries, do not access the Deep Web, and return either too few, too many, or irrelevant results. Research sites' search engines often require knowledge of Boolean languages and hard-coded taxonomies, making them difficult to use. DeepDyve transforms the way that information consumers search.
DeepDyve's breakthrough technology, the KeyPhrase™ algorithm, applies indexing techniques from the field of genomics. The algorithm matches patterns and symbols on a scale that traditional search engines cannot match, and it is perfectly suited for complex data found on the Deep Web. DeepDyve delivers highly relevant results with user-friendly tools for easily organizing and visualizing them.
DeepDyve is headquartered in Menlo Park, California with offices in Shanghai, China. The company is privately held and backed by prominent angel investors.
